For those of you who were swept up in Olympic Fever the last few weeks, this is a friendly reminder that College Football starts this weekend!  I did a recap 3 weeks ago of the top ten games.  So below are those games.  Enjoy!

Week 1

(All games EST)

  1. Tennessee at UCLA - Mon 8:00 PM - The obvious game of the week!  Rocky Top heads to the Rose Bowl on Labor Day.  Last year the Volunteers lost at Cal in a barn burner.  Look for a great game and great fun in the California sun.  If you live in LA skip the beach for the day and enjoy the clash of Orange and Blue!
  2. USC at Virginia- Sat 3:30 PM - Nice to see USC on the east coast to start the season!  UVA is under a 3 hour drive from Washington, DC and just over an hour from Richmond, VA.  If you want to get away for the holiday weekend head to Charlottesville, VA and enjoy the beautiful University of Virginia.
  3. Utah at Michigan - Sat 3:30 PM - Usually this game wouldn’t be a big deal.  But since Utah won a BCS game and Michigan was surprised by App. State you never know what can happen in week 1.  Also this is Rich Rodriquez’s 1st game.  Tailgating on the Michigan golf course is always fun especially in nice weather.
  4. Alabama at Clemson -Sat 8 PM -  On paper this looks like a great SEC vs. ACC battle.  I always like the home team in an opener at night so I believe Clemson will have a nice game even though the game is being played in Atlanta.  With Alabama’s tradition it is always a good idea to get a chance to see them away from home and if you are in Atlanta, head over to the Georgia Dome and check out this game.
  5. Appalachian State at LSU - Sat 5 PM - So out of the Big House and into the Bayou.  I really don’t expect anything other then a blowout.  But I am sure Baton Rouge will be rocking and making sure they aren’t upset like Michigan a year ago.  This is also a chance to go to an early season game at good prices that will be televised.
  6. Illinois at Missouri - Sat 8:30 PM - This is the rematch of a great week 1 battle from last year.  Both teams went on to have great seasons.  Look for the Illini to upset Mizzou under the Dome in St. Louis!
  7. Michigan State at Cal- Sat 8 PM EST* - So the Spartans head out to the West Coast for a match-up with the Bears, excuse me Golden Bears.  The Big Ten could really use a win to get some bragging rights.  We all know these teams won’t be matching up in the Rose Bowl this year so if you can make the trip out from East Lansing and Detroit now is your chance to watch the Spartans play in California.
  8. Kentucky at Louisville - Sun 3:30 PM - I love inner-state rivalries and this one should have plenty of scoring!  A Louisville win would help out the Big East in getting some SEC R.E.S.P.E.C.T.  Watch Coach Petino, no Coach Petrino, no wait Coach Steve Krager’s second season begin.
  9. Hawaii at Florida - Sat 12:30 PM - Defending Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow vs. whoever is going to throw the ball 800 times for Hawaii!  The humidity shouldn’t bother the players, coaches, or fans.  This might be a chance for a combined 100 point game and if not you could at least say you saw the (Rainbow) Warriors against the National Champs.
  10. Oklahoma St at Washington St - Sat 3:30 PM - Under-card Game of the Week!  So I guess nobody is paying any attention to this game.  Well why not spend your holiday weekend in beautiful Seattle, Washington because the game is at Qwest Field so you will have a great seat and a great time!
