Can’t say I’m shocked about the result of last night’s BCS title game. Florida simply had too much speed, too much defense and too much Tebow for Oklahoma. Bob Stoops is apparently vying with Jim Tressel for the title of “Biggest BCS game choke artist.” Does Utah deserve to be in the conversation for # 1? Maybe, but in this flawed system, it’s a moot point. Finishing # 2 in the rankings is an excellent statement for their program and the Mountain West Conference, which should absolutely become a BCS affiliated league in 2010. In the end, one has to be impressed with what Urban Myer has done so far in Gainesville. Two national titles in 3 years, playing in the toughest conference in the country and deflecting the massive amounts of Tebow hype is a testament to that guy’s ability as a big time college football coach. He’s the best in the game right now, and it’s not even close. He gets to big games and he wins them, recruits like a madman and keeps his guys hungry-and that Florida defense could return all 11 starters next season. Yikes.

This sucks for the Warriors; whistle from a fan costs them. (Fandome)

From the LONG overdue department: U.S. troops in Iraq will be allowed to drink up to 2 beers per person during the Super Bowl. The military’s dogmatic restriction of consumption of alcohol by hard pressed, over worked, over deployed troops in Iraq has been an avoidable drain on already strained morale. A step in the right direction to be sure! Here’s hoping that every serviceman and woman overseas gets to enjoy the American Super Bowl tradition as it is meant to be experienced; with good food and drink among friends. Stay frosty over there, troops.
