Gus Johnson prepares to announce the 2008 NCAA...

Well, perhaps the best sports weekend of the year has come and gone once again. I hope everyone enjoyed the first 4 days of the tournament, and managed to watch games while at work, either at the bar or via CBS Sportsline. Their March Madness On Demand was solid this year, with excellent video quality and little to no waiting times.

If you took the chalk in your bracket(s), things went well for you, as the top 3 seeds in each region advanced. People love to bitch about having no Cinderellas to root for, but we still got plenty of great games, especially on Friday and Sunday. It’s fun to root for an underdog, especially once your brackets are shot, but having the high seeds intact means we’ll get to settle some important debates in the Sweet 16. We’ll find out how good the Big East REALLY is, as they have 5 teams still alive in the tourney. We’ll get to see UNC really tested, and whether or not the Big Ten can somehow justify getting 7 teams in the dance.

Good breakdowns of the weekend’s action and previews of the Sweet 16 from four of the big boys:

Lance Armstrong injured in a bike wreck in Spain. I’d have cared a lot more in 2005.

The annual leakage of NFL Combine Wonderlich test scores. Let the insulting begin, because-gasp-some football players are dumb.

Friday Dump: Useless Super Bowl Prediction Edition

Happy Friday, Stumblers! As we get mercifully close to ending this week, it’s time to talk Super Bowl.

Here are “expert” predictions from the talking heads at ESPN and CNNSI

President Obama is displaying Yinzer tendencies here

Richard Seymour’s wife is straight gangster

The prediction here?

Cardinals 28 Steelers 24

Wisenhunt will devise some protection schemes to give Warner the time he needs to find his outstanding WR corps. With all the focus on Larry Fitz (best WR in the game), it’ll be Anquan Boldin who steps up big in this game-the Steelers can’t cover them both.

The Steelers will have some success running, but it will be a few deep bombs to Santonio Holmes off of play action that keeps their offense flowing. In the end however, the Cardinals passing game will be too much for the Steelers D, which while dominant this season, is vulnerable to exactly what the Cards have-2 big, strong, fast WR’s and an accurate QB who can stand tall in the pocket in the face of heavy pressure.

It may be a harbinger of the apocalypse, but the Arizona Cardinals are going to win the Super Bowl.
